Live Life in Color: A Journey Through the Chakras
“Embrace Your Inner Self” by Christi Murphy, LMT, CLT, BSNH
Embracing Your Inner Self
So what does this mean exactly – embracing your inner self? If your life is currently in shambles or a state of limbo, confusion, or lack, why would you want to embrace such things? That’s counterproductive, right? So many of us look outside of ourselves seeking something tangible that would make us happy – more money, that new car you’ve had your eye on, increased status, or even a new relationship with the perfect mate. It seems everyone else has what they want, so why can’t you?
Sadly, what we fail to realize is that we are willingly giving our power away, to some external force, like a car, a person, or a job, making the acquisition of “it” responsible for our happiness. As an example, getting that new car may be a rush initially, but consider what that car “really” represents for you. After some introspection, you may come to realize that a new car would indicate that you were successful and wealthy enough to afford material comforts. This recognition of having made it can absolutely fill a need. But what’s really feeding this desire for a new car and the need for attention from others? Is it possible that you entertain feelings of worthlessness and this new car seemingly fixed this for you, even temporarily?
Just suppose for one minute that you could feel recognized, loved, and worthy without buying this car. Would you be willing to take some control back in your life? Unbeknownst to you all of this time, the key lies within you – not outside of you. As a society, looking outside of ourselves for happiness, love, or attention seems to be the norm. Our “go to” coping mechanisms seem to be shopping, turning to food, drugs or alcohol for emotional comfort, being hypnotized by gross amounts of tv or computer time, or attracting a string of dead end relationships.
So where does that leave you? Still wanting? Still lacking? I ask that you to consider the slightest possibility that you create your reality. You can command your destiny! And although you may not realize it, you already know how to create. You may just need some retraining on how to create positivity instead of lack. You are more in control of your future than you probably realize, and that is a great thing!
What are Chakras?
Chakras are like data banks that channel energy into and out of the body. These spiritual energy centers located along the spine are considered both transmitters and receivers of information. They rotate clockwise (yin) for receiving information, or counter-clockwise (yang) for expressing information. This information helps you make decisions that certainly affect your quality of life. When ignored or out of balance (energetically), you also create a life out of balance (physically). As a matter of fact, maintaining healthy chakras are vital to living a productive, happy, and healthy life.
Chakras properly attended to keep you feeling grounded and safe, light your creative or sexual fire, and allow you to feel worthy and know that you belong. You may even find your voice to communicate your needs and be heard, be able to access your intuition or receive divine guidance, or access your ability to express and receive love. These energy centers can help you create a life of joy, health, and happiness or one of sadness, disease, and depression. The choice is up to you.
Living in Balance
For those of you not yet familiar with the chakras, compare the flow of energy through your chakras to the flow of a river. Imagine a voracious river running long and wide for many miles with several channels to pass through in order to reach its destination. Each channel the water passes through should be open and receptive so the energy of the water can pass through without restriction. As the river runs through each subsequent passageway, some channels are open and clear where water can flow through in a healthy and strong manner. Other channels may be blocked and narrow, proving difficult for the water to pass through with any amount of force. The entire journey depends on all passageways being open and receptive to the energy of the river.
Similarly, if a chakra is closed off or blocked energetically, it hampers the flow of chi (or life force) that is channeled into these energy centers. Much like a river passageway getting blocked with garbage and debris, a chakra can also get blocked by unhealthy food and emotions or a negative state of mind. In this blocked state, we cannot receive nor transmit clear communication, thus leading to blocked emotions, illness, and disease. And if a chakra is too open, you compromise your health by having too much energy flow out. Again, it’s all about maintaining an energetic balance.
Chakra health requires continual management and care and can be done in a myriad of ways. Working on clearing out blocked or negative emotions before they manifest physically, making proper food choices that support chakra health, and adopting a healthy lifestyle of exercise are but a few ways to maintain energetic balance. When this energy is moving through your chakras without restriction, you are healthy, happy, and remain in a positive state of mind.
As you awaken to the possibility of creating a better life for yourself, I encourage you to make it an “inside job”. I promise that you are more powerful than you think. And that’s definitely a good thing.
